CGRT at Xtinction

From the CGRT Team.

Press Release: The day of Xtinction has come and gone, and
CGRT/Husaberg/Royal Distributing/Parts Canada was out in full force
as Ben Rego and Cole Dobovich hit the hills in an effort to avoid
Xtinction. CGRT’s Shane Cuthbertson was able to drop the pen, and
organize a riding school with Flight/Husaberg/GoldenTyre’s Graham
Jarvis. 14 fortunate riders were able to spend a day riding with the worlds
best Extreme Enduro Specialist.

August 7 dawned a beautiful day, but portions of the course banners had
been destroyed by high winds during a storm overnight. The moisture was
welcomed as it reduced dust on the course and cooled the temperatures
making for a perfect day of racing. The one hour delayed start allowed the
riders to check out alternate sections that would be used between the
qualifier and the main event.

A corrected time, enduro style start, saw 4 riders per minute start the
qualifier. After 4 laps, all three of CGRT’s riders had completed the
qualifier in good shape. Junior rider Cole Dobovich finished the qualifier
in 15th position, putting him in perfect position for the main event, Le Mans style start. But the 13km main event was tougher than anything the 17 year old had ever faced. Nerves wracked the young man early in the first lap, but after riding through the arch after the vertical walls of Kodie, he relaxed. The obstacle had been on his mind all day, but he cleaned it in
wild style the first lap, and continued to ride it well throughout the rest of the main.

As fatigue set in, he began to make mistakes, which slowed his pace in his third and final lap. But he finished the tough Xtreme Enduro in 17th position and earned the distinction of being the highest placing Junior Rider of the event and pocketed $500 from Gas Gas Pacific.

The ‘Giant Killer’ Ben Rego qualified 8th, deep in a field of some very talented riders. Also completing 4 laps in the qualifier, Ben moved into the main, and found the course much harder than the event in 2010. The extended course took its toll on the tough BC racer, as he had trouble
on more than his share of hills. “ I can’t believe how strong my Kermaxx bars are, seeing my bike tumble down at least 6 hills!!” In the end, the likeable Husaberg rider carded a 13 place finish.

Sunday was lucky 7s day for Shane Cuthbertson as he rode a strong 7th place in the finish both the qualifier. His CGRT teammates had put a course together that was “ much more challenging than the inaugural edition. There were some elements that were very difficult and challenged my abilities to the maximum. Racing the 2 hr qualifier and then the 2 hr main event was physically draining, which made it difficult to focus on the extreme elements. Overall, I am pleased with my finish and am very glad I had a new 2012 Husaberg TE 300 as my weapon. This bike is perfectly
suited for Hard Enduro – just look at the results, as there are 3 of these bikes in the top ten!!
