Canada @ the FIM World Junior MX #2
one of the little towns on the way.
We've really been having a problem finding a place to eat other than our hotel. They seem to open from 11:30 or 12 till 1:30 and then go on
siesta. The restaurants don't open for dinner till 7 or 8 p.m. On top of that, we just can't get what we think we have ordered. If you ordered Pasta and Chicken in a cream sauce for instance you will get an order of pasta in a mushroom sauce, very good, then about 20 minutes after you finish you'll get a plate of very thin chicken breast that you could have cut up and added to your pasta.
Anyhow, we got to practice area around 2 p.m. and mechanics Davio and Claudio showed up by 2:30. It was our first look at the bikes and everyone is quite happy. Kade was shocked at the big wheels, I guess they just don't use small wheels in Europe. He thought he wouldn't be able to ride but after a couple laps (track opened at 3:30) he felt right at home on the bike.
Zeb and the mechanics worked with the boys for a couple hours and they
both felt way better by the end of the practice session.
We went back to the hotel and offered dinner to the mechanics which they accepted. We meet for dinner at 8 p.m and found out that the pit boss didn't save a spot in the main pit for us as we had arranged that morning. We ran into some FIM execs at dinner and were told who to talk to. Most of us retired to bed, but Zeb shared a few drinks with the mechanics and wasn't back until late.
Friday morning: move in day! Phil, the mechanics and I ate breakfast early and headed down to pit area to see if we could sort out the problem. Turns out there wasn't a problem; the pit boss left a little early Thursday so he got us a great spot in the pits, so the mechanics started assembling the tents and doing the graphics on the bikes.
When it was time for registration and tech inspection and we got in a huge line that only got bigger by the time we are done. We breezed through it all and were back to our pit area by 1:15. We wanted to do lunch but the mechanics didn't want to go so we told them we would bring them back some sandwiched and supplies for the weekend. Easier said then done! We got to grocery store at 2:30 only to find that siesta is till 5. We drive around and find a sandwich place with leftovers from lunch so we pick them up and take back to the mechanics. The supplies will have to wait till after 5.
